Public schools within Alaska provide students with a listing of classes they can choose to satisfy APS requirements to collect the credits they will need to be eligible for this particular scholarship. The Alaska Performance Scholarship gives a few thousand dollars annually for students who are residents of Alaska with an exemplary academic operation. This scholarship requires students to choose certain classes, complete a FAFSA(Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application, and choose the SAT or ACT to be eligible. This scholarship came about due to the continuous increase in the expense related to post-secondary education. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE UA SCHOLARS PROGRAM AND THE APS? The UA Scholars Award is a program of the University of Alaska that awards a $12, 000 scholarship to the top 10 percent of graduates from each qualified Alaska high school. The award may be used for attendance at any UA campus statewide. Students are designated by their high school based on their standing at the end of their junior year.
Notwithstanding the eight semester limitation of this particular scholarship, students can apply for extensions by emailing their request. This request is accompanied with a verification letter from their school. The letter should have detailed information and must be sent 30 days before the expiration of the scholarship. Role of the Parents for the Alaska Performance Scholarship The funds from this scholarship are used within the state of Alaska. It encourages parents to get started by working and talking with their kids early in order to organize them to be eligible for this scholarship. Parents may speak to school counsellors or the district office to go over certain classes, GPA requirements and the test scores which students will need to succeed. Students can track their progress online as a part of the Alaska Student Aid Portal account. They can track their eligibility status and confirm their award amount and also verify that their information is accurate. Once they complete their award, the students may also track their scholarship disbursement and usage in their own institution.

The Technology Department works closely with the Advanced Train Control Systems Department as the Alaska Railroad pursues the federal mandate to implement a Positive Train Control system that uses computer-assisted dispatch and GPS monitoring of train locations. The Finance Department makes sure the company stays on budget and meets its profitability goals by overseeing all financial activities, including budgeting, auditing, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting. The Accounting team is also responsible for paying employees and vendors.
