Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center Flow Cytometry Core Facility: Research: Feinberg School of Medicine: Northwestern University

The Lurie Flow Core will begin a phased reopening of the facility during the first three weeks of June 2020. During these phases we will be limiting occupancy in each lab space to observe social distancing guidelines. In addition, face masks will be required at all times in all labs a nd common areas of the core. Detailed guidelines for facility use will be updated and posted on this website; and a brief summary on NU Core. Flow Core instrument and service status will also be updated on a continual basis on this website. Please contact Suchitra Swaminathan () with questions or concerns. The recognition of the complexity of flow cytometric analysis has caused many journals and granting organizations to scrutinize flow data. Thus the core flow lab is becoming an important research resource as well as service provider and a prudent investment for academic institutions. The challenge for the academic core facility is to meet both the scientific and technical mission by providing high quality services in a cost-effective and timely manner.

Abstract Central nervous system (CNS) metastasis from systemic cancers can involve the brain parenchyma, leptomeninges (pia, subarachnoid space and arachnoid mater), and dura. Leptomeningeal metastases (LM), also known by different terms including neoplastic meningitis and carcinomatous meningitis, occur in both solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. This review will focus exclusively on LM arising from solid tumors with a goal of providing the reader an understanding of the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, prognostication, current management and future directions.
