SEOUL—Kim Jong Un became the first North Korean leader to set foot in the South since the Korean War when he stepped across the military demarcation line Friday and shook hands with Moon Jae-in, the South Korean president. The outcome of their meeting is set to determine the future of relations on the Korean Peninsula and lay the groundwork for Mr. Kim's planned summit with President Donald Trump, which could come within weeks. In talks at the truce village of Panmunjom that include a dinner banquet, the two Korean leaders were due to discuss improvements in relations, a possible peace agreement and, perhaps most critically, North Korea's nuclear arsenal. They were expected to release a joint statement later. Mr. Kim, displaying a smile, greeted Mr. Moon and coaxed him across the line into the North for a moment, before the two men stepped back together into the South, while holding hands. After posing for photos together, the two leaders introduced the members of their respective delegations, which included Mr. Kim's sister Kim Yo Jong.

Kate Nicholls, chief executive of the group, said around 900, 000 hospitality workers remain on full furlough payments and said she anticipated 560, 000 additional job losses by the end of the year. WASHINGTON—President Trump finalized his legal team for the Senate impeachment trial, choosing a group of attorneys with the household name recognition and TV experience he values, while overlooking their links to past and continuing controversies, a tradeoff that Mr. Trump has often made. Mr. Trump filled out his team on Friday by increasing the total number of attorneys to ten from four who will defend him against two charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The most controversial selections were constitutional-law professor Alan Dershowitz and former Whitewater Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr. He also added Robert Ray, who succeeded Mr. Starr in the broad Whitewater inquiry; Jane Raskin, a veteran of Mr. Trump's private legal team during Robert Mueller's probe; and former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, who has appeared frequently on Fox News and joined the White House as an impeachment aide in November.
